How do you get your name out there?

Let me introduce myself to give you an idea of who I am and my merit on this subject. Hello, I’m Brae Wyckoff, internationally acclaimed author of The Horn King Series. My debut novel, The Orb of Truth, hit Amazon in November of 2012. It has since been voted #1 in several categories:

Not bad…how did this happen? How did I get my name and my book out there to achieve this? Read on…

Writing your book is the easy part. This statement will ring true once you have published your first book and you try to get the word out to everyone. Family and friends will rally behind you and buy your novel but what about the rest of the 6 billion people in the world. Okay, let’s narrow it down to the USA only…that leaves over 300 million people who don’t know anything about you and your book.

What is an author to do?

Do you find a publisher? Good luck. They are not taking any newbies. If you do get a publisher, you are still in the same boat. You still have to market your work.

Do you find an agent? Good luck. They are also not taking any newbies. You are your best agent and marketer.

How do I market my book then? In the world of social media, things are getting much easier to share your work, but it is still like shouting to someone you know to get their attention at the Superbowl when the team just scored a touchdown…they won’t hear you. You will need help…you will need a chain reaction…you will need to connect the spheres of influence that you have.

Ever hear of a Social Media PR Manager? No? Don’t worry, I didn’t either…

Facebook in North America only has over 180 million users. Globally it is over 800 million users. That is quite a number. I signed up for FB back in 2004 when it was still new and I have seen every change to our timelines and have stopped grumbling about it. I won’t bite the hand that feeds me.

FB is your friend and in this vast world you will find the people to connect you and your work. I found my PR Manager or rather she found me. Aileen Aroma (https://www.facebook.com/aileen.aroma.1 friend her on FB…smart move for all authors and smart for readers) will champion your work. She can promote like no other and she has the contacts and resources to help you. Do you see where this is going? You connect with Aileen, she connects with her contacts, and then those contacts connect further and so on. It is BRILLIANT!

Authors, invest in Aileen and she will invest in you. This requires formalizing a plan with her and working it together to build your fan base.

What can Aileen do to help me?

Good question.

1.       She will bolster your fan base and readers by pushing your author page and getting you much needed LIKES.

2.       She can create an Official Fan Page for you and post content to it daily.

3.       She can create an event on FB and have other authors donate their books to help generate a buzz with the focus on you. (This can be a magical time in your life and really help push your work)

4.       She can create a Street Team. A what? Yes, you heard me correctly…a FB Street Team that will pound the internet airwaves and plaster your links on all their pages, their blogs, and promote the crap out of your work and who you are to the public. This is something that needs to be well maintained and managed and this is where Aileen shines brightly.

5.       She can also help with other social media endeavors. Heard of Twitter? What about Google+? Oh, and don’t forget about Goodreads (now owned by Amazon). All of these platforms have huge merit on there own but once you start linking it all together then it can be a powerful tool to let the world know who you are.

Aileen Aroma has been working with me since February and since then I have seen sales increase, not just in the USA, but around the world. Why? Because of those spheres of influence I mentioned earlier. You need to start connecting the dots and linking yourself to the world.

Aileen can’t do everything. You will need to be a strong presence and available as an author. You need to get your book professionally edited and an awesome book cover that will attract, not repel.  Think about getting a book trailer made…professionally. What is the theme of what I’m telling you? Yes, be professional in everything you do.

As an author you are in the spotlight. You are considered famous, and rightly so. You have birthed a story with your words for the world to embrace and enjoy. Your words matter and need to be heard.

As Bridazak would say in my book, The Orb of Truth…

“It is TIME!”

The Orb of Truth Book Synopsis:

The Dragon God Synopsis (Book #2 of the Horn King Series):

As the heroes of Ruauck-El emerged triumphantly in The Orb of Truth, the first book in the Four Horn series, they could not have imagined that an even greater evil still lay ahead of them.

Raina has discovered a new threat to the realm, and teleported King El'Korr - against his wishes - to the West Horn King's capital city, Tuskabar, in hopes of thwarting an evil Mystic's plan to acquire the five dragon stones. Each relic harbors an ancient dragon spirit, and, if combined, would unleash a multi-headed deity beyond imagination, to begin a reign of terror upon Ruauck-El.
